This is usually a wise secured loan for the borrower, and a very low risk loan for the lender. Not only is the borrowers most prized possession in jeopardy if she or he defaults but she is borrowing for a solid and sensible reason – to save money.

Unsecured loans generally cost more because the risk is greater for the lender. The interest rates on unsecured loans such as higher education loans have high interest rates.

If you do not want to risk your home or other property as collateral and apply for an unsecured loan instead but are turned down you may very well still qualify for a secured loan. Your Children Must Always Be in Car Seats

I constantly see kids standing up in vehicles, staring at me out the back windows or just bouncing around on an adult’s lap. Don’t adults know that in a collision, the body of an unrestrained child becomes a projectile, bouncing around the inside of the car? A child can be ejected from the car, through windows or the windshield and be fatally injured. Occupants of the vehicle can be injured by the child hitting their necks or heads. Sadly, so many people still have not gotten the message.

Are car seats too expensive? Or are people just plain lazy?

There are different types of car seat, usually varying depending on the size, age or weight of the child. Remember to buy a new car seat – old car seats may not have the latest safety features or may have been compromised in an accident.

Infant car seats – only face the rear; usually used in the back seat; may be used as an infant carrier and may be attachable to a stroller.

Convertible car seats – Used in the rear; when your child gets older may change into a forward-facing car seat or even a booster seat.

Booster seats – the last step before your child can safely wear a regular seat belt; used with the car’s seatbelt.

It is important that you follow the manufacturer’s instructions about how to attach the car seat. Also, you always want to send in the car seat’s registration form, so you are notified if the manufacturer recalls the seat for any defect. If your child is wearing a heavy coat, make certain that the harness straps are tight. Make sure to tighten the straps when your child wears lesser outerwear (when the weather warms up). Some safety agencies recommend removing your child’s outerwear in the car, so that the child can be fastened securely into the car seat.

Do not re-use a car seat after a serious accident – one that causes severe damage to the car. Get a new one.

Common car seat mistakes:

Placing child in wrong size car seat for his weight/size;

Placing a rear-facing car seat in the front seat of the car;

Not making sure the harness is tightened correctly;

Positioning the harness chest clip incorrectly;

Not using the latch correctly.

Not just a safety issue, it’s the law. Below I summarize New York Vehicle and Traffic Law, Section 1229-c. For specific questions, consult the statute. No person shall operate a motor vehicle in this state unless:

(1) all back seat passengers under the age of four are restrained in a specially designed seat which is either permanently affixed or is affixed to such vehicle by a safety belt,

(2) all back seat passengers of such vehicle who are age four or older but under age seven are restrained in an appropriate child restraint system (+ combination lap and shoulder harness belts)

(3) all front seat passengers (a) under the age of sixteen are restrained by a safety belt; or (b) if they are under the age of four, by a specially designed seat which is either permanently affixed or affixed to such vehicle by a safety belt, or children who are age four or older but under age seven are restrained in an appropriate child restraint system (+ combination lap and shoulder harness belts)

The rule changes somewhat if: the passenger four or younger weighs more than 40 pounds, or if the car is not equipped with shoulder harness belts, or if all the lap and shoulder belts are already in use by other children in the car

No person shall operate a motor vehicle unless such person is restrained by an approved safety belt. No person sixteen years of age or over shall be a passenger in the front seat of a motor vehicle unless such person is restrained by an approved safety belt.

This section shall not apply to taxis, liveries, and buses other than school buses EXCEPT no person shall operate a school bus unless all passengers under the age of four are restrained in a specially designed detachable or removable seat, or another approved restraining device.

Many years ago in my career I had founded and run a series of automotive service franchising companies. I started with mobile car washing, truck washing, and mobile oil change services. Business was good, as we are a nation of cars. Today, we still are, cars, cars, cars, everywhere; Gasoline Cars, Electric Cars, and soon Flying Cars and Hydrogen Powered Vehicles too. Not long ago, I was asked by an entrepreneur if I thought that a mobile oil change franchising company was still a viable company to start in the present period? I put a little thought into this and considered all the future challenges and opportunities. Let’s talk shall we?

Okay so, is this a feasible business model today and into the near future (five to ten years)? Yes, I believe so, mobile auto-services tend to do well, and there are many who are looking to start a small business with the new Trump Administration. Reciprocating engines are not going away, and even EVs need battery conditioning services, lubrication for wheels, etc. Hydrogen cars also have moving parts, air-filters, heat shields, etc. Tires will still need car, balancing, and rotating.

What sort of service vehicle is needed for the franchisees doing the work and servicing the vehicles? Should one use a truck, trailer, or van? Well, vans tend to do well with mobile oil-change, and the fleet business is the best of all, and sometimes it means a trailer is needed for extra storage tanks for new oil and used oil, and parts; belts, windshield wipers, oil filters, air cleaners, etc. Working in low-hanging parking structures can be a tough thing to worry about, so sometimes trucks are not the best option, and some vans are too tall, for instance the Sprinter Van, which is roomy but too tall for parking structures.

One great benefit today that we didn’t have back in the nineties is easy use mobile-pay and easy internet ordering efficiencies, which makes it possible to stay efficient even doing one’s and two’s for individual cars. Of course, in the future Self-driving cars may drive themselves to get an oil change, or they can drive to the franchisee in the middle of the night for a discount, and the service vehicle can make that work perhaps by renting an auto parking lot at night. Drop Coating Metallic Auto Body Paint

Drop coating is an important skill that every auto body paint sprayer should aspire to master. Drop coats are administered during the last phase of the spraying process when metallic paints are used. When applied to an auto body panel correctly, drop coats offer full color coverage, perfect metallic content distribution and a better paint base that can accept lacquers with ease.

Applying Metallic Paint

Drop coating should be used with all metallic auto paints. Many paint sprayers apply metallic base coats using the same methods with which they apply solid colors, and this is a common error that compromises an otherwise perfect job. While horizontal arm movements are perfect for most solid color spray jobs, metallic auto body paint should be dropped onto the panel as soon as basic coverage has been achieved, and it is equally as important to cross coat the final application in horizontal and vertical directions.

Ensuring Uniform Paint Coverage

Before drop coats can be applied, the prepared car panel must be adequately covered with metallic auto body paint to help avoid primer transparency. Once the color is activated, a full wet coat of paint should be sprayed to the surface of the panel. It is essential that each horizontal spraying movement blends into the previous one to guarantee uniform coverage and distribution (overlaps of 30% to 40% are perfect). As soon as a single we coat has been applied, the auto body paint must be left to dry for around 10 minutes. Never spray a second coat until the first one has achieved a matte appearance.

Applying a Second Coat of Metallic Paint

If the metallic paint is still transparent, an additional coat may be required but this won’t be necessary in most cases. To spray the actual drop coat, position the spray gun 18 to 24 inches away from the surface of the panel and reduce gun pressure by 20% to 30%. Spray the auto body paint horizontally, moving the arm slowly across the panel so the metallic color drops (or falls) onto the surface. Maintain uniform coverage until the spraying process is complete. Recoat the panel from a similar distance straight away, but swap the horizontal movements for a vertical direction so the subsequent coat crosses the first. As well as guaranteeing even paint coverage, crossing the drop coat offers uniform metal distribution and a superior surface that will accept lacquer correctly.

Tacking the Drop Coat
