Tire Bulges and Indents: Does Your Tire Have a "Spare Tire?"

[ad_1]

Bulges and indentations can be nothing to worry about or a serious problem.

Being made out of rubber (and a bunch of other stuff, but we’ll stick with rubber for now) tires are pretty flexible. They need to be, in order to deal with changing road conditions. Tires made entirely out of stone, regardless of what cartoonists would have us think, simply don’t work very well.

It is this very flexibility that helps to give modern tires their strength and resilience. However, it can also lead to indentations and bulges.

There’s nothing unusual about small indentations in the sidewall. These indentations (or “undulations” as they are sometimes called) are a purely visual condition. Tire performance is not affected at all. In fact, they are very often found on radial tires as a characteristic of the tire construction process. The indentations are more noticeable on larger tires, because of their taller sidewall, and on tires that operate at the higher end of the inflation pressure scale.

Tires are reinforced with cords of fabric, usually a synthetic such as polyester or nylon. Radial tires have at least one layer of these cords, more if it is a heavy duty tire. The cords run parallel to each other but sometimes overlap. This overlap can cause a slight indentation when the tire is inflated to full pressure.

These indentations may not look great, but they are harmless. Even if they appear on a newly installed tire you have no cause for alarm. The same cannot be said for bulges.

Bulges appearing on the sidewall of a recently installed tire are definitely bad news. In most cases, these bulges are the result of a space between some of the body ply cords inside the tire. When this happens with new tires the solution is simple: return the tire.

This situation is almost invariably covered under the manufacturer’s warranty. This is a workmanship/materials defect, and it is not the fault of the technician that installed the tire. Although tire manufacturer’s do a lot of testing before the tires reach the marketplace, this is a problem that just doesn’t show up until the tire is installed and inflated.

If you’re tires have developed a bulge a significant amount of time after being installed, then it probably isn’t the materials that are at fault. Ply cords, though by no means delicate, can be damaged by impacts with curbs or road hazards, or by running into potholes. If this happens, it’s time for a visit to your local tire dealer.

23 Games to Play in the Car (or Anywhere!)

[ad_1]

How many of you find that travel or riding to or from an event, school or camp accounts for some of the quality time you have with your children? Instead of spending that time in silence or frustrated because you are listening to the same child-music CD for the 18th time that day, try a fun car game. These games often lead to laughter and memorable moments. These are also great when trying to keep children entertained in lines, waiting rooms, etc.

Here are a few that I have learned over the years, heard about from friends, or created with my daughter.

Guessing Games

Car Colors: Choose a time limit such as 10 minutes or 30 minutes – depending on the length of the drive. Have each rider make a guess about how many cars of a certain color will be spotted during that time. The closest guesser wins. You can also do this in “sprint fashion” by using 3 -minute intervals as your time limit. Whoever is closest gets a point for that time segment. The first one to 5 points wins.

Odd or Even: Each player makes a guess at how many of the next 20 license plates will end with an even number. The one who is closest wins. It helps to have a little tally chart to keep score. You can lengthen the game by increasing the number of license plates.

Spy: You are probably familiar with this one. One player announces something that they see and the other players try to guess what it is by asking questions. The only trick when doing this while driving is that it has to be something that won’t go out of view – like the sky, the road, etc. Someone announces that they “spy” something and gives a clue. Example: I spy something blue. The players then take turns guessing until some one gets it. Whoever guesses correctly starts the next spy-turn.

20 Questions:One person thinks of a famous person, place or thing. Everyone else is allowed to ask the player 20 questions which can only be answered ‘yes’ or ‘no.’ Whoever guesses correctly becomes the next person to think of something. (We play this without a limit on the number of questions.)

Observation Games

The Alphabet Game: I am sure you know this one! Each player sequentially works through the alphabet looking for something that starts with a specific letter. For example: A might be apple tree or a word on a sign. Once a player finds an A word, they move onto B. (Have fun with Q, X and Z!) The first rider to work through the alphabet wins. Variation: Use only letters found on billboards, or letters on license plates.

The Animal Game:If you are in more rural areas where cars aren’t abundant, try the animal game. Keep on the lookout for animals and when you see one be the first to make the animal sound. For example if you saw a cow you would say “moooo.” The first person to make the animal sound wins a point. Play to a designated number of points. You can make this game a bit more complicated for older kids by adding a designated number of points depending on the commonality of the animal – i.e. cows are 1 point, pigs are 2 points, etc.

Find it First:Choose an item such as Volkswagen bugs, farms, people taking walks, silos, etc. Then choose a number like 5 or 20 depending on the length of your drive. See who can find the designated number of the chosen item first.

Music Games

Hum-Along: One rider hums a song and the other passengers try to guess. The person who guesses goes next. The first one to guess 3 right wins.

Radio Game 1:Hit the “scan” button on your radio until it stops on a song. The first person to guess the artist wins.

Radio Game 2:This isn’t so much a game but a way not to fight over music! The first person to take a turn goes through the dial until they find a song they like. You then listen to that song until completed. Then the next rider does the same, etc., etc. The only rule is that if you go all the way through the dial without finding a song you like then you need to listen to the last song you land on or lose a turn.

Radio Game 3:While the radio is off, each rider chooses a word. Turn the radio on. The winner is the person whose word is spoken or sung first.

Creative Thinking Games

Story-Telling:One passenger starts a story with a single sentence. Then the next person adds a sentence. Continue until you build a complete story.

The Question Game: Take turns asking open and thoughtful questions and allowing each person time to answer. Examples:

If you were on a deserted island and could only take 3 things, what would you take and why?

Who are your mentors/heroes and why?

If you won the lottery what you do with it?

If you could have lunch with a famous person, who would you pick and why?

Note: If you really get into this game, you can purchase small books called “The Book of Questions” at most bookstores that give you a ton of subjects to choose from!

Word Games

Word Sequence: Choose a topic such as animals, places, television shows, people, fruit, etc. Name something in your category. If you choose animals you might say “panda.” The next player has to name an animal that starts with the last letter of your animal. In this example, their animal would have to start with the letter “A” such as “alligator.” Play continues until someone can’t think of a word. They are then eliminated. When you have only 1 person left, they are the winner. You cannot use any animal name twice. (If you are playing with real young children, let them have the handicap of being able to use the same word twice).

The Round Game: My daughter made up this one and we have had great fun with it. Even my best friend who is single and childless enjoys this game over dinner with us. We choose a topic such as vegetables, board games, television shows, cities, types of cereal, flowers, movies, etc. Then we name something within that category. For example for cereal the first player might say “Cheerios.” Then the next player names a cereal. Play continues until someone can’t think of an item, then they are “out.” Play continues until there is only one person left. For young children, let them have three “passes” as a handicap.

The Rhyming Game:Someone picks a word to start with, such as “ball.” The next player has to come up with a word that rhymes. Play continues until someone cannot think of a rhyming word. As always, give younger players a hint or two. You make the game more difficult for older kids by having each player recite the previous list of words before adding their own.

Tongue Twisters:Choose a person that you all know, example, “Sara.” Then start with a phrase about that person that uses only the first letter of her name such as “Sara says strawberries…” take turns adding “S” words with as few “connectors” as possible (a connector is a word that doesn’t start with S) to see how silly of a tongue twister you can create!

Memory Games

My father/mother owns a grocery store:One player begins the round by stating, “My father owns a grocery store, and in it he sells (something that begins with the letter A; e.g., ant traps).” The next player states, “My father owns a grocery store, and in it he sells ants traps and (something that begins with the letter B; e.g., bananas). “Play continues with each player having to recite the current list and then add something that begins with the next sequential letter of the alphabet. For young players, offer them “3 strikes” where you will help them if they forget the list. Adults–sorry, no handicap for you!

Variation: You can vary this game to match your interests or those of a child. Example:

My mother owns a clothing store and in it she sells ____________

My brother owns a music store and in it he sells -______________

My sister works as a producer and she has produced __________ (insert television show)

My father owns a bookstore and in it he sells _________________

Just Plain Silly Games

Laugh A Lot: Choose a player to keep a straight face. The rest of the players choose a silly answer for the player to use such as “My shoe.” Then players take turns asking questions such as,

What do you brush your hair with?

What is your favorite snack?

Who is your hero?

Where is your favorite vacation destination?

The player keeping the straight face has to answer with “My shoe,” while trying to keep a straight face. If they laugh then play passes to someone else and a new phrase is established.

Math Games

Add-it-up: Call out the numbers on the license plate and see who can add up the numbers the quickest. For example D572-43X – players would have to calculate 5+7+2+4+3. Whoever answers correctly gets a point. The one who reaches 5 points first is the winner. (No calculators allowed.)

Games that Require a Bit of Preparation

Travel Bingo:Make a bingo board with color names in the squares. Print out several on your home computer. As you drive, players place an X when they see a car of the specific color. You can add to the excitement by letting each car only be used by the first person to “call it.” Try 4 corners, blackout (filing up the whole card) making an X on the card, etc.

Variation: Make a “mixed” car board and include different types of items on the card such as:

Fire truck

Stop light

Grocery store

National Historic Monument

Lake or Pond

Farm

Police Car

Billboard

Speed Talking: (You will need either a timer or watch with a second hand)

Choose a topic and then talk for 60 seconds straight without repeating yourself or pausing. One point is awarded if you accomplish the goal. Take turns playing to a designated number of points depending on the length of your drive. If someone makes it 30 seconds, award them ½ a point.

Game for a Tired Driver

Statue:On a long trip and need some quiet time? Play a round of statue. The person who can stay still and quiet the longest wins!

Print a copy of this article and store it in your glove compartment! Whenever kids are bored or restless in the car, you’ll be equipped with fun ideas to turn long road trips into magical memories!

Auction and Lottery: Which Is a Better Method of Allocating Scarce Licenses?

[ad_1]

In China, some major cities are restricting new car purchases so that they can cut down on traffic and pollution. According to reports, only a certain number of licenses to purchase cars will be granted. The cities have been experiment with various models for granting these licenses that feature either an auction of lottery method. These methods each have their strong points, but there are also many critics of both systems. As the world watches China to see if this new license program will work to cut down on the nation’s traffic and pollution problems, it will also be able to witness the success of either type of allocation process.

The Auction Process

The auction process allows interested parties to bid on the licenses that are up for grabs, so to speak. In essence, interested bidders could run the cost of each license quite high. For a poor person who really needs a license in order to get to work or for traveling to visit family frequently, the cost at auction could be prohibitive. Critics say that only the wealthy will be able to obtain licenses at auction. On the other hand, people who really want a license and are willing to pay whatever it takes to obtain one will have the opportunity to do so.

The Lottery Process

The lottery process is far less lucrative for the city but also more democratic for the people. Anyone interested in obtaining a license can sign up for the lottery. Licenses are then granted by pulling names out of a hat, so to speak. While this system regards the rich and poor alike, it also allows anyone who is remotely interested in a license to throw their hat into the ring right along with parties that are more in desperate need of a license.

Which Allocation System Is Best?

What has been emerging from China’s large cities is that the auction system is increasingly favored. For one, lottery rules prevent winners from trading their licenses. So, if someone threw their name into the lottery and won, but they didn’t want the license as much as a relative, they couldn’t transfer the win. Moreover, the lottery seems to fuel more black market activity regarding the sale of licenses. As reports suggest, “the lottery does not satisfy all gainful trades is made painfully obvious by black markets for licenses.” (1)

Moving the process to an auction-based system removes the necessity of a black market process substantially and allows the city to reap the monetary benefits. In fact, cities that are making money on licenses can then turn around and spend that money on their public transportation systems.

Can’t Cities Adopt Both Models?

The simple answer to whether cities can adopt both the lottery and auction model is yes. Some are suggesting that it’s a great idea to split the licenses between the two systems. Allow some to be granted by the lottery and allow the rest to go to auction. It’s important to remember that the auction process assure “buyers of normal, traditional closings, without unnecessary confusion.” (Source: Heritage Global Partners, “Auctions,”) While the auction system seems to be increasingly popular in China, it is also a popular allocation method worldwide.

What Is the Difference Between Rebar and Wire Mesh?

[ad_1]

A little knowledge goes a long way in helping you make an educated decision when hiring a contractor. If you are looking at having a new concrete driveway poured, you may be asked to decide if you’d like wire mesh or rebar used for support. If you have no idea how to answer that question, this article will provide a brief overview to give you an informed decision.

Wire Mesh

Wire mesh is made from cold reduced deformed steel. It comes to the contractor in a roll that, when laid out, is a series of open squares. Imagine square chicken wire made of thick steel bars. The bars have ridges to help the concrete attach to them. The wire mesh is used to add strength to the concrete. First, it is there to give support during the “green” period when the concrete is setting. Then it helps maintain the concrete’s integrity against cracking during its lifetime.

Rebar

Rebar, shortened from “reinforcing bar,” is also made of steel. It is rounded bars with ridges that measure in sizes varying by 1/8th inch thickness. Also used for support, rebar is generally laid individually in larger squares than the wire mesh. Rebar is a major component in adding strength and maintaining structure when cracking occurs.

So which do you chose?

Cost

Wire mesh is cheaper than rebar. Firstly, wire mesh is made of thinner steel bars, so less materials. As you’ll recall, it can be rolled up. And secondly, because it does come in a roll, the labor of installation is less intensive. Rebar’s cost will depend upon the thickness of the bars and will ultimately add to more labor expense.

Support

Rebar is definitely the stronger candidate for support. However, that said, if we’re talking about a four inch thick residential driveway (four inches is the thickness recommended for driveways holding less than 10,000 lbs), mesh does the trick just fine. In fact, many contractors consider rebar for residential jobs overkill. If you are looking to get a thicker driveway because you plan on having heavy trucks or an RV parked on it, then rebar is a good suggestion.

Cracking

Both wire mesh and rebar cannot prevent cracking, but are helpful in holding the concrete together when cracking occurs. The steel behaves similarly to concrete in how it expands and contracts during hot and cold temperatures, which is why it’s used in concrete slabs. Likewise, the mesh and rebar will stop small cracks from expanding further. Wire mesh must be laid correctly to serve the concrete best. It should be directly in the middle of the slab. So a four inch slab should have the wire mesh two inches deep. If it becomes exposed to the air, it ultimately can rust and lead to cracking. But a good contractor will make sure that doesn’t happen. Some contractors feel the smaller squares of the mesh, and the thinner steel, allows for more flexibility as the contractions in the concrete occur, staving off cracking better than rebar.

The myth about strength

When people talk about mesh or rebar and compare it for strength, one major part of the discussion should focus on the base of the concrete slab. Neither wire mesh nor rebar will perform its duty if the bottom of the slab isn’t laid properly to hold concrete.

Differences Between Diono Radian Rxt Vs Maxi Cosi Pria 70

[ad_1]

Parenting is such a difficult job. Perhaps it is the only job that you do not get paid but you will have the most rewards by simply seeing your child grow bigger and happier each day. With this, you would do anything just to make sure that he is well-taken care of especially when it comes to the things he uses to keep him safe all the time.

Among the things that he needs on a daily basis is a car seat. This is especially so if you are going to drive him to school or his day care center. Now, all you need to do is to be very critical about the kind of seat that he is going to use so that you can be sure about his safety.

Two of the most sought after convertible seats in the industry today are the Diono Radian RXT and the Maxi Cosi Pria 70. Both of these seats are known for their superior quality and the fact that they are both made by known and trusted manufacturers. It can also be used up to 120 pounds while the Maxi Cosi Pria 70 can only be used in a shorter amount of time.

On the other hand, if you have a small car, then choosing the Maxi Pria 70 would be your best decision. This is because it is made for smaller babies and that is it more compact. However, when you love to do air travel, the Diono Radian RXT may be a better choice considering that it can be folded and carried like a backpack. This means more convenience as you can bring it along anywhere you want and the fact that it is FAA approved. When it comes to the price, they almost cost pretty closely ranging between $260 and $300.

Now, whatever you choose between the two, you can be sure that your child will have the best protection that he will ever need. Just be certain about the little differences and decide which will benefit you best.

How to Determine the Perfect Feng Shui Car Number

[ad_1]

The Chinese have an obsession with numbers. They believe in auspicious numbers and whenever they purchase a new car, they always try to obtain an auspicious Feng Shui car number. The importance of lucky numbers is not restricted to license plate numbers, the Chinese also look for auspicious numbers in almost everything in daily life.

Auspicious numbers are used in determining marriage dates and in determining the compatibility of couples. It is also used in birth conception. Some couples try to ‘time’ the day their children are conceived, hoping the child will be born at a lucky time.

It is important to understand what numbers are auspicious and what numbers are considered to be unlucky. This is especially so when giving gifts. Some superstitious Chinese are easily offended by gifts that may bear an ‘unlucky’ omen.

The Chinese place heavy emphasis on a good Feng Shui car number. This is because they want their vehicle to be ‘lucky’ and safe on the road. The emphasis on car numbers is so heavy, that some Chinese believe that cars that have been in accidents must now be lucky numbers due to karma; since something unfortunate happened to a vehicle of that number, that same number must now be due for some good luck.

The process in determining a good Feng Shui number, or any number for that matter, can be long and convoluted. Feng Shui Geomancers use an elaborate system of checks and balances in trying to balance karma and achieve the optimal lucky digits. Some numbers that are unlucky for some may be lucky for others. Therefore, there is no definitive guide or set of numbers that will universally lucky for everyone.

The one exception to the rule is the number 8. In Cantonese the pronunciation of 8 sounds like the Cantonese equivalent of prosperity. Hence, a series of numbers that end with 8 are generally considered lucky. The more times 8 appears, the luckier the numbers are.

To the Chinese, the number 4 is the Western equivalent of 13. The Chinese regard the number 4 to be unlucky because of its pronunciation. The number 4, when pronounced in either Cantonese or Mandarin, is a dead ringer for “death”. Hence, a series of numbers that end with 4 or have multiple occurrences of 4 are considered unlucky. The number 4, in its very essence, is the embodiment of death.

These numbers are important to the Chinese. To prevent a faux pas, it is imperative that you avoid giving the Chinese any items that are 4 in quantity. Conversely, it is considered extremely polite and thoughtful to give the Chinese items in quantities of 8.

The examples listed above are microcosms of the various systems the Chinese use to determine lucky numbers. If you want to determine a tailor made set of numbers that were designed for you, you will need to delve deeper into the realm of Feng Shui Geomancy. Consulting a Feng Shui Geomancer is one sure way to ascertain the best Feng Shui car number for you.

High School Wrestling: My 10 Favorite Moves

[ad_1]

I never used throws in my wrestling career. Throws just weren’t my thing. High amplitude throws look cool and can score a wrestler 5 points quickly and maybe even result in a pin. But, throws are also high risk moves. Throws are high-risk, high-reward moves. Investing in commodities is also a high-risk, high-reward endeavor. I’d rather put my money into a savings account or a CD with an assured rate of return on my investment.

Similarly, in the sport of wrestling I’d rather put my practice time to use on drilling double legs, single legs, and stand-ups. In the sport of football, you see a lot of hand-offs and short passes. You don’t often see trick plays or really long passes (i.e. the bomb). Often a team will kick a field goal instead of trying for the touchdown because the field goal is more of a sure thing. I think you see what I’m getting at. It’s good to learn throws and counters to throws. However, usually the fundamentals win wrestling matches. This is probably a message you have heard before. Ninety percent of the time, you will probably use the same moves. You may use a different version of the move or set it up differently, but use the same basic move nonetheless.

I had a teammate in junior high who liked to headlock everyone he wrestled. That worked in junior high, but it stopped working in high school. If you’re good at throws then go for it. But, most NCAA champions and freestyle Olympic champions are not throwers. Watch a video of John Smith or Tom Brands and see how often they do a throw. I don’t think I’ve ever seen either wrestler do a throw in competition.

Most of the following moves can easily be found online or in books. Several are featured in online videos. I’m sure you know all of these moves. They are basic moves. But, fundamental moves win matches which is why everyone uses them. The key is to find the proper techniques for applying these moves. Remember the importance of setting your moves up and not just wildly shooting takedowns. Be aware of your position at all times. Don’t try to emulate other wrestlers or do moves just because your coach thinks they are good. Find out what works for you. Take the time to learn your craft (i.e. wrestling). Don’t be lured in by fancy moves or instant gratification. Practice and drill fundamental moves religiously. Don’t spend time in practice or in competition performing moves that are only likely to work two percent of the time. Now then, here are my ten favorite moves.

1. Double leg takedown

The double leg is one of the first moves I learned. The double leg is one of the first moves most wrestlers learn. The sport of judo has a similar technique known as morote- gari (two-handed reap or double leg grab). What could be more basic than tackling someone by grabbing both of his legs? Kids probably do it all of the time. Of course, it’s a bit more difficult than that. Proper technique is required. You don’t want to get overextended. You opponent could snap you down and spin around or put you in a front headlock. Therefore, make sure that you take a deep penetration step while keeping your hips under you. Some wrestlers like to drive through their opponents and some like to lift their opponent off the ground to finish the double leg. In junior high we were always told, “On a double leg you keep your head on the outside. On a single leg you keep your head on the inside.” Sometimes you can lock your hands while doing a double leg and then use your head as a pry to take your opponent down. I had a high school teammate who used the double leg takedown 99% of the time when he was on his feet. He placed third in the state tournament during his senior year. Sometimes you can get away with doing the same move repeatedly when you’re really good at it. You can often switch off to a double leg after performing a high crotch. The double leg is a fairly low-risk move. If you don’t finish it, you often simply end up back on your feet again. Former UFC champion Matt Hughes executed double legs in matches often and slammed his opponents to the canvas. Mixed martial artists often learn how to perform a double leg. Of course, you can’t slam your opponent in folkstyle wrestling. But, the double leg takedown is a great move. The double leg is a high percentage move (i.e. it often works).

2. Single leg takedown

The single leg is another basic takedown. I used primarily single leg takedowns in high school. There are numerous ways to set up and finish a single leg. The single leg is also a high percentage move. Push and pull your opponent causing him to bring the leg you want to attack forward. Make him “heavy” on the foot you want to attack. Lower your level and shoot in with your hips under you as a strong foundation. Keep your head inside and get an angle off to his side. Or, don’t tie up and simply make sure you are close enough to perform your shot without getting overextended. I think it’s fairly easy to shoot a single leg. I think the real secret is being able to finish it. You may have to pivot around and grab his far ankle. You may have to get his ankle on your knee to help you lift his leg. You may have to tripod up and then do a “boot scoot.” Spend a lot of time working on your ties, set-ups, and finishes for single legs and other takedowns.

3. High crotch takedown

The high crotch is a kind of single leg. It’s also similar to a duck under. You can set up a high crotch from an underhook, a two-on-one tie, or many other ways. I like to hit a high crotch and then finish it by switching off to a double leg.

4. Whizzer

If someone shoots for a takedown, you can sprawl, whizzer, and crossface him. I consider a whizzer to be a basic and effective move for countering leg attacks. The whizzer involves a deep overhook on your opponent’s near arm when he is in deep on a takedown attempt. The pressure of a whizzer on your opponent’s arm is often enough to fend off his attack. Sometimes in a whizzer situation, you can wrap your free hand around his neck and drive him to the mat in a half nelson. Other times you end up on your feet with the whizzer still secure and you can try to hip toss your opponent. The whizzer is an important move and should be drilled often.

5. Stand-up

This is the most standard move for escaping from the bottom position. Keep your elbows in, explosively stand up, break your opponent’s grip, and turn to face him. Hand and wrist control is important. You’ll have to be good at hand fighting. After you break his grip, you can try to take his captured hand and place it in your “back pocket” before you turn quickly to face him. Stand-ups are great for getting that 1-point escape. Make sure that you aggressively seek a takedown immediately after getting the escape.

6. Switch

I love the switch. The switch is the most fundamental reversal technique in wrestling. It involves a hip heist type movement. Sometimes it helps to push back into your opponent before you pivot and scoot your hips out to hit the switch. I really enjoyed doing the “standing switch” in high school. I would stand up from the bottom position. When he pulled me back to the mat, I would immediately hit a switch. You should know how to do a standing switch.

7. Sit-out

This is another fundamental move from the bottom position. After you achieve the sit-out position, you can often execute a hip heist and escape. In addition, if your opponent sticks his head over your shoulder, you can grab it, rotate hard in the opposite direction, and put him on his back. The sit-out is fundamental and you should know how to perform it.

8. Cross-body leg ride

The cross-body ride is performed from the top position and involves putting one or both of your legs inside of your opponent’s legs. We used to call it the “cowboy ride” if a wrestler put both of his legs in. I liked using a cross-body ride when I was having trouble keeping my opponent down in the bottom position. I used to do turks and guillotines from the cross-body position. Sometimes I merely used the ride to break opponents down. I was once ridden for an entire period by an opponent who put both legs in and used a force half nelson. That was not fun. The cross-body can be higher-risk. You have to keep your back arched and not let yourself get too far forward on your opponent’s back. Nonetheless, I think it’s an effective move. Olympic champion Ben Peterson was good at leg riding.

9. Arm bar (a.k.a. the chicken wing)

The arm bar was my favorite pinning move. I used single and double arm bars often. I liked to secure a single arm bar and then swing my leg over my opponent’s head and use it as a pry. This usually got my opponent to turn over to his back. Dan Gable was exceptional at arm bars.

10. Front quarter nelson

The front quarter nelson is a great move after you have sprawled and stopped an opponent’s shot. You place one hand on the back of his head while threading your other hand behind his near arm. You then place the hand you’ve threaded behind his near arm on top of the hand on the back of his head. You apply pressure, elevate his near arm, and force his head to the mat. You can often turn him onto his back in this manner. I used to apply a front quarter nelson, get my opponent moving one direction, and then arm drag or shuck him as I spun around behind for the takedown.

Other Favorite Moves

  • Granby roll
  • Cradles
  • Low single
  • Ankle pick
  • Inside trip (in judo it’s called ouchi-gari)
  • Arm drag
  • Half nelson

Remember, fundamentals win wrestling matches. Practice hard and drill your moves religiously. I hope some of my favorite moves are favorites of yours too.

Cheap Cars Under $1000 – All Star Profiles – VW Beetle

[ad_1]

When looking for a car under $1000 bucks a lot of classics that are great to build, restore, and drive are always available.

One of the more common great classic cars that you can buy cheap and drive is still the Volkswagen Beetle. The VW bug has always been a symbol of cheap and reliable transportation and even though many are becoming more valuable, you can still find plenty at for under $1000 dollars. Its becoming tougher to find a clean example that can be driven for under $1000 dollars but you can always find a start to a great project car.

What I like best about these VW’s (other than the fact it was my first car a ’72) is that you can do so many different things with them from perfect resto’s, custom resto’s,custom drag cars, road racers, off road toys, kit cars, and the list goes on. Depending on what you have in mind for yours this can affect how you may want to make your purchase.

Most cars of this age and VW’s are no different have a fair amount of rust thats needs to be checked for and addressed. Floor pans and heater channels tend to be problem areas especially where the battery is located. Floor pans are not a tough fix but heater channels if they get bad may require bracing of the car and a lot of labor. So if your planning on doing a baja bug for example rust on the fenders etc. may not be of concern but structural areas will affect it’s ability to take abuse on the trails.

Quick stats in-case you did not know are the car comes with one of two motor types dual port and single port, two rear suspension types swing axles and IRS,and two trim models standard and super. Super Beetles have Macphearson struts in the front and a shorter stubbier front nose. Its seems the super’s have less overall value as collectables so they tend to be cheaper. The mix of parts you get will simply depend on the year; VW always made changes but maintained the overall same design.

The reason these cars are All-Stars is that not only are they very simple to and easy to work on (pull the engine in 30 minutes), but they are reliable can usually handle all types of weather and parts are fairly cheap still. These classic’s can let you have the classic car experience with a more modern reliability standard. So if you can find one for cheap buy it and have fun!

25 Creative Ways to Advertise Your Business in Your Community

[ad_1]

Are you in Direct Sales? Are you looking for creative ways to market your home business? If so, I have 25 creative ideas that you can use to advertise your home business, in your local community.

When it comes to advertising, it’s important to be consistent with your advertising efforts. The harder you work on advertising your home business, the more new customers and team members you will get.

Let’s take a look at a few ideas.

1. Check out your local area State Fairs and Community Carnivals. Ask about getting a booth or table and set it up with your business information. People love to shop at Fairs and Carnivals, and they are looking to spend money.

2. Purchase some business card styled refrigerator magnets. Hand them out to all of your customers, party hosts, and business contacts. Using a magnet as your business card keeps your business in front of your customer, instead of being hidden away in their wallet.

3. Give your business products as holiday gifts. Cousin Jane might just love her gift enough, to become a future customer.

4. Put an AD in the back of local high school yearbooks. You can usually get these ads for around $25.00 which makes it affordable.

5. Put an AD for your business in local Athletic Sports Programs. In the fall, I purchase an AD in our local high school football program for around $40.00.

6. Contact local churches. See if you can place an AD in their weekly church bulletins and activity guides.

7. Do you have a local community Play House? If so, get your business AD placed in their play programs.

8. Co-Sponsor a local Youth Athletic Group. Baseball teams, softball teams, cheerleading squads, gymnastic squads and swim teams, etc. are always looking for sponsors.

9. If you have a home business, consider getting a Yard Sign printed up. You will want to place it in your front yard, in a highly visible area.

10. Does your neighborhood hold local Meet and Greets? If so, make sure you go out and attend them. Get to know your fellow community members and make some new contacts.

11. Donate a Raffle Drawing Prize to a Non-Profit Group or Charity in your local community. They are always looking for prize donations for their charitable raffles.

12. Local bus stops and bus sheds. Have you noticed that a lot of them have local business advertising on them? Contact the company and ask them for their advertising rates.

13. Does your local area grocery store allow advertisers to place business ads on the back of their cash register receipts? If so, contact them and ask about their advertising rates.

14. Contact your local Fire and Ambulance companies. Ask them about their upcoming fundraiser events or chicken barbecues. Ask them if you can set up a display table with a few of your products.

15. Contact your local Assisted Living Centers for Senior Citizens. These centers will often hold Senior Shopping Events. Find out the date of the next event and participate by setting up a table display with some of your business products. Seniors can’t get out to shop like they used to, so bring the shopping to them.

16. Does your community hold summer concerts in your local parks? If so, contact them about sponsoring an event or setting up a table.

17. Exchange business cards, fliers and coupons with another Direct Sales consultant. Every time you hand out a customers order, place one of her business cards into your bag, and vice-versa.

18. Indoor Concert Venue’s. Have you attended a concert lately? A lot of local businesses co-sponsor these events. Ask the sponsor how you can get some advertising at the event.

19. Does your community print up a free renters guide, house buying guide or used car guide? (you can usually find them for free at your local supermarket). If so, contact them about placing your business ad inside one of the guides.

20. Get your business information printed onto paper text book covers. Donate them to local area adult technical schools and colleges.

21. Is there a local business in your area holding an upcoming Grand Opening? If so, contact them. A lot of times they are giving away freebies to the first few hundred customers. Inquire to see if you can donate a few of your products for their Grand Opening. If you do donate, make sure your business contact information is attached to your products.

22. Get your business information printed up on inexpensive bookmarks. Donate these bookmarks to local colleges and libraries.

23. Put your business knowledge to work. Call up your local colleges, cooking schools, craft stores, etc. See if you can come in to teach a class. Sharing your expertise with others is a great way to get new business.

24. Print out some kid’s coloring pages with a small section on them advertising your business and donate them to local area restaurants, daycare’s, doctor’s offices, etc.

25. Consider getting some inexpensive mini desktop-sized calendars printed up with your business information on them. Hand these calendars out to local businesses to give to their office employees.

I hope you find these 25 creative ideas useful when it comes to advertising your home business in your local community.
