In searching for a new car seat, you often encounter terminology that you may not understand. What is this EPS and EPP foam the car seat manufacturer keeps boasting about? And what does it mean for me and my child? It is important to have as much knowledge and understanding of your child’s safety seat as possible. Your child’s life literally depends on it. Here, you will gain a better understanding of some of the most important safety features included in many of today’s car seats.

EPS Foam

EPS stands for Expanded Polystyrene and is most commonly known as Styrofoam. It is often used in items such as portable coolers and bicycle helmets. It is made up of thousands of mini beads that can be molded into various shapes and sizes. EPS foam has the ability to withstand a lot of abuse, but can also snap or tear. EPS is relatively inflexible and breaks easily when compared to EPP.

EPP Foam

EPP stands for Expanded Polypropylene. This is a high-grade engineering foam that has an elastic nature, allowing it to regain its shape when deformed. EPP foam has such extreme strength in fact, that it is often used in automotive bumpers. EPP usually recovers completely from impacts and is harder to tear than EPS.

So what does all of this information mean for you and your kids? Basically, since all car seats must meet certain government regulations for safety, both EPS and EPP foam provide adequate protection in a collision. Many high-end child safety seat companies will use EPP foam, which often costs up to four times that of EPS foam. EPP foam is flexible, which means it may not become permanently damaged as readily as that of EPS. This means that after an accident, the car seat with EPP foam may sustain its original shape better than the one with EPS. Some parents feel more comfortable using safety seats made up of EPP, as it is a higher-end product. However, since any car seat that has been in an accident should be deemed ineffective, it should be replaced, regardless of the type of energy-absorbing material inside of it. This is a personal decision to be considered. The important thing is that you have an understanding of what these different “ingredients” inside your child’s seat mean.

The rule of thumb is to put into consideration the types of goods you need transported and then selecting the trailer that is just perfect for it. With so many choices getting the perfect one is not that hard.

Trailer suspension

Trailers with smoother suspensions offer better transportation experiences. Reliable suspension means less shock on your tow vehicle and cargo for that matter. It is therefore best to settle for a high performing suspension, especially for heavy loads and regular towing for valuable cargo. Leaf springs make the traditional suspension systems. Even though they are cheaper compared to other suspension, the springs give bouncier ride and can be noisier and faster in wearing. Rubber torsion suspensions on the other hand offer better and smoother rides compared to the leaf springs. It could be because they work independently so road impacts do not end up transferring from side to side as it is the case with the leaf springs.

Trailer construction

The construction does not only play a role in determining how durable the trailer is but also whether it is the best for your transportation needs. The frame is what supports the trailer and it should therefore be strong and sturdy enough. Most trailers feature I-beam, L-shaped, C-channel and tubular steel or aluminum. Tubular frames are stronger than C-channel which are stronger than L-beam. The more metal your trailer has the stronger it will be. Safety features should also matter when looking at the construction to keep cargo secure and safe. Check important features like D-loops, E-tracks and additional devices designed to keep your load secure. Also important to check are hinges, locks, entrance ramp and the wiring. You will only enjoy peace of mind when you are sure your cargo is safe and secure so check out everything that matters.

Denver Patio Ride

It’s a bar crawl! It’s a bike ride! The fun’s just begun when you catch a ride on a party bike that’s visiting a round of bars! Watch out… pedaling and steering gets tougher as the night wears on. This is a must do while you’re in Denver. Tours start at 10:00am (Wowsers!) seven days a week. The last tour on weekends starts at 10:30pm (8:00pm on week nights). They have large or small party bikes. Check the rules and regs before you embark.

Hey PB&J

This food truck takes a lot of twists and turns based on an old favorite… peanut butter and jelly sandwiches! These are not your Mom’s PB&J. Bite into a grilled PB&J sandwich with Applewood bacon, fresh fruit, fresh herbs, and other concoctions! All sandwiches are unique creations, made one at a time. Look for the jam colored (purple) truck! Side note: If you’re not in the mood for PB&J, they have another food truck – Meatball!

Little Man Ice Cream

Have you ever been to an ice cream shop in a 28-foot-tall cream can? How can you do good by eating ice cream? Come to Little Man Ice Cream! Have some delicious ice cream in a handmade waffle cone. For every scoop of ice cream they sell, they will donate a scoop of rice or beans to help a needy community. For Little Man Ice Cream, it’s about giving back. If it’s not ice cream season when you’re in Denver, stop by Little Man for some chili and homemade bread. Yummy!

The 1Up

Do you miss the days of the old arcades that have been replaced by video games? Check out The 1Up in Denver! They’ve got a ton of old school games (and a bar!). While you’re having some liquid refreshment from the bar, stop in and play some skee-ball, or pinball. Fancy a game of giant Jenga? It’s on like Donkey Kong! The emphasis here is on fun and games. Good times guaranteed.

Progresh

This place rules! You can train for snowboarding or skiing without all that pesky snow. If skateboarding or BMX is more your style, you can do that there too! It’s an enclosed, safe environment for you to test and improve your skills in. Progresh will show you the ropes… all ability levels welcome. All ages too! Take an adult class, or sign someone up for a kid’s class. Rent the place for a party, or take a private lesson in an adventure sport!
